Leafing & Gilding Works

Our workshop, Leafing & Gilding Works, is located on the second floor of the Yaqub Building in Shiva Nagar, Grant Road. The exact address is 30/22/A. We do a very specific kind of work here, mostly putting gold and silver leaf on frames, furniture, and sometimes even walls. It is a very delicate process and you have to be careful not to breathe too hard or the thin leaves will fly away. The workshop is usually very quiet because we need to concentrate. I learned this trade from my father, who worked in the same area for forty years. It is not a modern factory. We use old brushes and special glues that have been around for a long time. The building we are in is quite old, and the stairs are a bit steep. We get a lot of dust from the street, so we have to keep the workspace as clean as possible. We do not really advertise our services much. Most of our work comes from interior designers or people who have old items they want to look new again. It takes a lot of patience to do this right. Some days I spend eight hours just doing one small piece of a chair. It is not fast work, but it is what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and focus on the leafing.
