Kalhath Foundation

Kalhath Foundation is over in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai. We are in Unit 64 of the Evergreen Industrial Estate, right on Shakti Mills Lane. The estate is an old place with a lot of history, and you can see it in the architecture and the narrow pathways between units. Our space is basically a big room with high ceilings that we have divided up with some partitions. It has an industrial feel to it, which makes sense given where we are. There is always the sound of machinery or footsteps echoing from the other units nearby. We have some heavy-duty shelving for all our equipment and a few desks that have seen better days. The floor is concrete and a bit uneven in spots. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, so we keep the big doors open to let some air circulate through the space. We have got a small corner for making tea and coffee, which is where everyone gathers for a break. It is a busy place to be, with people always coming and going in the lanes outside. We like being in Mahalaxmi because it is so central, even if the building is a bit old and grumpy sometimes. It is a honest place to work, and we do not feel the need for anything flashier than what we have. Most of our day is spent sorting through materials.
