About Kala Mandir Institute Of Fine Arts – Art & Craft in Mumbai
You can find us in the Phase 1 GIDC Vatva area, specifically at D 4/27, though we have connections to Ghatkopar East as well. Being in an industrial zone like Vatva means things are a bit different here. It’s not your typical quiet school setting. There is the sound of machinery and trucks nearby, but once you step inside our space, it’s all about the art. We have been teaching fine arts for a long time. The floors often have bits of charcoal or dried paint on them, no matter how much we sweep. We have large tables where students can spread out their papers and canvases. It’s a very hands-on environment. We don’t spend much time on theories from books; we prefer to just pick up the brush or the pencil and start. The students who come here are usually very dedicated because it’s a bit of a trek to get to this part of the GIDC. We have shelves full of old clay models and half-finished paintings. It feels like a real workshop. We aren't fancy, and we don't have air conditioning, just some big industrial fans to keep the air moving during the hot months. People come here to work hard on their skills. We provide the space and the guidance, and they bring their own creativity. It’s a dusty, busy, but very creative little corner of the world.
