Johsac Arts

Johsac Arts is tucked away in A D Bamburi Chawl, over in Kaju Wadi. We are located in Andheri East, specifically on Central Road No 7 in the MIDC area. Being in a chawl means it’s a very communal atmosphere. You always know what the neighbors are cooking for lunch and there’s usually someone walking past the door saying hello. We do our creative work here in this small space. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we have big projects going on, but we make it work. The MIDC area is mostly industrial, so there’s a lot of trucks and factories nearby, but our little corner feels a bit different. We started this because we wanted to make things. It isn't a high-end studio with white walls; it’s a place with paint stains on the floor and scraps of material in the corners. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little bit during the monsoon, so we have to move everything to the middle of the room. It’s just part of being here. We don’t really follow a strict corporate schedule. We work when there’s work to be done and take breaks when we need to clear our heads. People around the chawl know us as the artsy lot. We just keep our heads down and focus on the pieces we are making, trying to do something decent with our hands every single day.
