India Art

Our place, India Art, is located at 274 A in Ghatkopar East. We are inside the Damji Compound on 11th C Cross, not too far from Patel Chowk. It’s a bit of a maze back here in the compound, but we like it that way because it's quieter. The space is usually filled with materials and various projects we are working on at the moment. It’s not a clean gallery like you might see in a magazine downtown. It’s more of a working workshop where things actually get made. We have paint stains on the floor and stacks of supplies piled up in the corners. Vyalikaval is a busy enough area, and being near Patel Chowk means there's always something happening nearby. We’ve been at this Ghatkopar address for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. People who know the compound know exactly where to find us. We don't spend much money on making the front look fancy or modern. We’d rather just focus on the work itself and getting things done. Sometimes the light in the afternoon comes through the windows and is really good for seeing the details of what we’re doing. It’s just a few of us here, and we’ve known each other for years. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything. We just keep doing what we do at India Art and let the work speak for itself. It’s a bit dusty and cramped, but it’s our space and we like it here.
