Heramb Arts

We have been at Wadkar House for a good while now. It is on S P Marg, which most people know is right in the middle of the Chira Bazar and Kalbadevi area. If you are coming from Marine Lines station, it is just a short walk, though sometimes the crowds make it feel longer than it really is. The building itself is one of those older Mumbai structures that has seen a lot of years. We open up the shutters every morning and start setting things up. It gets pretty dusty around here with all the traffic outside, so a lot of our time goes into just keeping the place tidy. There is always someone walking by or sticking their head in to ask for directions because we are so close to the main road. We don't really have a big staff or anything fancy. It’s just us doing the work that needs to be done. Sometimes the electricity acts up or the monsoon leaks a bit near the window, but that is just how things go in this part of town. Most of the people who come in are locals who have lived in Kalbadevi for decades, so we end up chatting about the neighborhood more than anything else. It is a busy spot, but we like the pace of it. We just keep our heads down and focus on what is in front of us.
