H I Ghadiali & Sons

You can find H I Ghadiali & Sons over on the first floor of the Sri Complex in Kalbadevi. We’re in Bharat Chambers, room 403, which sits right opposite the Zandu Pharma building. Kalbadevi is an old part of the city, and our building definitely shows its age, but it has a lot of history to it. There’s always a crowd on the street below, and the sounds of horns and people shouting come up through the windows all day. We’ve been operating this way for a long time, passing things down through the family. The office is filled with old wooden desks and filing cabinets that are stuffed with papers from years ago. We don’t use much high-tech equipment, just the basics that get the job done. It feels like home to us because we spend more time here than anywhere else. We know the tea seller downstairs by name, and he usually brings up a tray in the mid-morning. There isn't a lot of room to move around when we have a lot of stock in, but we manage. We don’t go in for fancy titles or big business strategies. We just talk to our customers like people and try to keep our word. It’s a bit dusty and the stairs are steep, but it’s where we do our work and we’re used to the rhythm of this neighborhood.
