G K Dhanoo Art Gallery

We are located on the first floor of the Gulmohar Building, right near the Shivaji Park Fire Brigade in Mahim. It’s a busy spot but once you walk up the stairs into G K Dhanoo Art Gallery, things quiet down a bit. We spend our days surrounded by different pieces of art, hanging them up or rearranging the frames to make sure everything looks okay. Sometimes the noise from the street comes in through the windows but mostly we just focus on the work. People stop by after seeing the fire station nearby, and we show them what we have on the walls at the moment. It is not a huge space, just a regular floor in a local building, but it fits what we do. We’ve been here in Mahim for some time now. Some mornings are slow when we are just cleaning the glass on the frames or sweeping the floor. Other times, it gets a bit crowded if a few people come in at once. We don’t have fancy stuff here, just the art and the space we work in. It can get a bit hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going. Most people find us because they live around Shivaji Park or are just passing through Gulmohar. We keep things pretty simple and just try to stay organized with all the different paintings and sketches that come through our door every week. It is a quiet way to spend the day.
