Friends Of Poor Foundation

Our office is in Chembur, over on Ghatla Road. We are based in the Meera Seema CHSL, right in building number one. Chembur is a busy part of Mumbai, and our street is no different. There is always a lot of movement outside, people going to work or heading to the shops. Our room is quite small, but we’ve managed to fit everything we need inside. It’s a bit cluttered with folders and old registers, but we know where everything is. We don’t have a fancy sign out front, just a small nameplate. The building is an older one, so it has that lived-in feel to it. We spend most of our day here, talking to people who come in and out. We don’t really follow a strict corporate schedule; we just stay until the work is finished. Sometimes that means staying late into the evening. We usually get tea from the stall at the corner of the road. It’s a good way to take a break. We aren't a big organization with lots of money to spend on offices. We just use what we have to help out where we can. It’s a bit noisy and cramped sometimes, but it’s our space and we’ve made it work for us over the years. We often hear the neighbor’s TV through the wall, and the hallways always smell like someone is cooking something good for lunch. It makes the place feel more like a community than just a regular office.
