Zara Studio Mumbai

Zara Studio is located at Shop No. 10, right across from the Gold Field Building. We are situated in the Kala Killa area on the Bandra Link Road in Dharavi. It’s a very active part of Mumbai with a lot of movement. I started the studio here because the location connects a few different neighborhoods. Inside the shop, things are usually a bit cluttered with equipment and fabrics or whatever project we are currently working on. I spend most of my time behind the counter or working at the back. The noise from the Link Road is constant, but you stop noticing it after a few weeks. People stop by while they are commuting between Bandra and other parts of the city. It’s a small space, so we have to use every inch of the walls for storage. I’ve been in this spot for a while and have seen the buildings around us change quite a bit. The Gold Field Building is the easiest way to tell people where to find us. Usually, I'm drinking a lot of chai and talking to whoever drops in. It’s a hands-on kind of business. We aren't trying to be fancy like the studios in South Mumbai. We just do the work that comes our way and try to keep things moving. The lights stay on late most nights because there’s always something left to finish before we close up the shop.
