Deesha Jyot Foundation

We are located in Mankhurd, in the Suburban Mumbai area. Our office is over at Bharat Mata Chawl, right near the Sandeep Medical shop. It’s a very busy neighborhood, with lots of people moving around at all hours. Deesha Jyot Foundation is a small place. We share the space and try to keep things as simple as possible. It’s not a modern glass building or anything fancy. It’s a real place in a real part of town. We deal with a lot of local folks from the area. There’s always someone coming in with a question or a form they need help filling out. We don’t have much in the way of fancy equipment. Just some old computers, a printer that jams, and a lot of notebooks. The noise from the street is always there, but after a while, you just get used to it. We take our work seriously but we don’t act like we’re better than anyone else. We’re just part of the community here in Mankhurd. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and talk in the dark until it comes back on. It’s a very human way to work. We don’t have big formal meetings or anything like that. We just decide what needs to happen and then we go and do it. It’s practical. We try to be useful to those around us in whatever way we can. That’s really all there is to it. No big mystery. Just us in our corner of the city.
