Atul Arts

I mostly spend my days in the back of the flat in Kandivali East, dealing with paint spills and trying to get the lines right. Atul Arts has been here in Building No 1 for a while now. Flat 2 is where all the work actually happens, though it’s not exactly a big space. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded with canvases and different materials piled up in the corners. We are located right opposite the Western Express Highway, so you can always hear the cars and trucks zooming by at all hours. It’s just the background noise of our lives now. We do things bit by bit here. Sometimes customers come in with an idea that doesn’t quite work on paper, and we have to sit down and talk through what’s actually possible. It’s not a fancy studio by any means. It’s just a place where things get made. Most days it stays pretty quiet until the evening. We try to get things done on time, but sometimes things take a bit longer if the weather is humid and the materials won't dry like they should. People around Joshi Lane know us well enough. We aren't trying to be some huge advertising agency or anything like that. It’s just us doing the work we know how to do. My hands are usually stained with some kind of ink or paint. If you come by to visit, you might have to move a stack of frames just to find a spot to sit. We’ve seen this neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. The highway is always busy, but inside this room, we just focus on the task at hand. It’s a decent life, keeping busy with the brushes and the pens. (260 words)
