Atelier India Art Gallery

Down here at number 52 in Cuffe Parade, things are usually a bit quieter than the rest of the city. We have this space where we put up different kinds of art. It’s not a huge place, but there is enough room for people to walk around and look at the walls. We spend a lot of time moving frames around and trying to get the lights just right so everything looks okay. Sometimes we get local artists coming in with their work wrapped in newspaper, and other times it’s more established people. We don’t really do big fancy openings with red carpets. Usually, it’s just us and whoever decides to walk in off the street. The floor is old and sometimes it creaks when you walk near the back corner. We keep a small desk near the door where we sit and do the paperwork. It can be a bit slow some afternoons, so we just sit and talk or look out the window at the cars going by. We try to keep things simple. If someone likes a painting, they ask about it. We don’t push anyone to buy anything. Most of the time people just want a quiet place to look at something nice for a few minutes before they go back to their busy lives. It’s just a small gallery in a nice part of town.
