Akarshak Art Gallery

Our gallery, Akarshak Art Gallery, is located in Andheri West. We are over at the 21st Cross in the Doddanna Industrial Estate, units 2 and 4. It’s a bit of an unusual spot for an art gallery, being in an industrial area, but we like the space it gives us. We aren't a polished gallery with white gloves and hushed voices. It’s a bit more rugged here. We have different kinds of art coming in and out all the time. Sometimes the walls are full, and other times we are moving things around to make room for new pieces. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and packing crates, which people don't always realize about the art world. The industrial estate is busy with trucks and workers, so we feel like we’re part of a real working environment. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who handle everything from hanging the frames to talking to visitors. We aren't trying to be elitist or anything. We just want to show art that we think is interesting and gives people something to look at. It gets a bit dusty being near the industrial works, but we keep the gallery as clean as we can. It’s just our little corner of Andheri where we can look at something different for a while. We open up the doors and see who stops by.
