Our place, Maxwell Stone Company Pvt. Ltd., is in Shreeram Market, which is on the Makrana Road in Borawar. Being in the Nagaur district, we are right in the heart of stone country. The dust here is white and it covers everything—the trees, the trucks, and our shoes. Ganga 7 is our specific spot. It’s a busy market area. There are always people shouting and tractors moving blocks around. We spend our days mostly in the thick of it. The Makrana Road is famous for a reason, and you can feel that history when you’re working here. We aren't a polished corporate office. Our workspace is more about the grit and the actual stone. We have piles of material waiting to be processed or shipped out. It gets loud with the saws and the heavy engines. We usually take our lunch together and talk about the day's load. The sun can be quite harsh in Nagaur, so we stay under the tin roofs when we can. It’s a straightforward life. We focus on the blocks and the slabs we have in front of us. No one here wears a suit. We are just local people doing what needs to be done with the stone that comes from this ground. It’s been this way for a long time and we don't expect it to change much. We just keep working through the heat.
