Kanchan Marble Industries

Down here at Kanchan Marble Industries, things stay pretty active because we’re right in the Anajmandi area of Bikaner. Most people know this part of town for the grain market, so there’s always tractors and trailers moving around. Our place is tucked in there with the marble slabs and blocks. Bikaner gets really hot, so we try to get the heavy lifting done early in the morning before the sun really starts beating down on the stone. Working with marble means you’re always covered in a bit of white powder. It’s just how it is. We have our yard set up so the trucks can back in easily, though the traffic in Anajmandi can be a bit of a mess sometimes. We don't have a big front desk or a waiting room. Usually, you’ll just find one of us standing near the stacks or sitting in the shade for a quick break. The stone comes in, we organize it, and then it goes out to whoever needs it for their floors or walls. It’s basic work, nothing too complicated. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years, but the grain market stays busy as ever. We just keep our heads down and keep moving the stone. It’s a solid way to make a living and we’re glad to be part of the local scene here. It’s noisy and dusty, but it’s our daily routine.
