Balaji Granites

Our place is right on Gunawati Road, just across from the Turfari Temple. If you know the Chokhra Marble Chips Factory, then you know exactly where we are located. It’s a dusty part of the road because of all the stone work happening around here. We handle a lot of granite and marble chips. The yard is usually full of slabs leaning against each other. It’s not the kind of place where you wear nice shoes because there is white dust everywhere. My father started things here and now we just keep it going. We don't have a fancy website or a big sales team. Usually, it’s just me or one of the boys sitting in the small cabin near the gate. We get a lot of people coming in to look for specific colors for their floors. The machines for cutting can be quite loud, so we have to shout sometimes to be heard over the noise. It is a local operation and we know most of the other yard owners on this stretch. Business is steady but it depends on the season. When it's too hot, we take a long break in the afternoon. People from the city come out here because they know the factories are all lined up along this road. We just try to keep the stock moving and make sure the sizes are right. It’s a straightforward life in the stone business. We just take it one day at a time.
