Malabar Kitchen

Our kitchen is located at No.4/242 on Ag Road, right behind the post office near Calicut Beach. It’s a busy area, especially when people are coming and going from the beach. We focus on making local meals that aren't complicated but fill you up. The building is older and the kitchen itself gets pretty hot once the stoves are going. We start our work early, chopping vegetables and getting the rice ready for the day. There isn't much in the way of decoration, just some tables and chairs for the people who want to sit down and eat. Sometimes the sea breeze helps with the heat, but other days it’s just humid. The staff here has been together for a long time, so we have a system for when things get crowded at lunchtime. You can usually hear the noise of the traffic from the road and the sounds from the post office nearby. We get all sorts of people coming in, from locals to people just visiting the beach. The floor is concrete and we have to wash it down often because of the sand people bring in. It’s a straightforward eating place. We don't have a big fancy menu, just what we're cooking that day. It’s a regular spot where you can get a plate of food and a glass of tea. We keep a radio on in the corner sometimes for some background noise.
