Kavil Amlp School

Down in Mannankavu, you will find Kavil Amlp School, which is where we spend most of our waking hours. It is a local primary school in the Kozhikode area, and it has a very community-oriented feel to it. Most of the kids who come here live within walking distance, so you see the same faces every day. The school itself has that typical look of a Kerala village school, with the tiled roofs and the open windows that let in the breeze. When the monsoon hits, it gets quite damp, and we have to move things around to stay dry, but we are used to it by now. Our staff is a small group of people who just want to teach and help the kids learn their basics. We don't have a lot of extra bells and whistles, just the classrooms and a small area for playing. Sometimes we have to fix things ourselves when a desk breaks or a door gets stuck. It is just the way things are done here. We enjoy the quiet moments before the students arrive when the air is still cool. Then the bells ring and everything gets busy until the afternoon. We take pride in being a steady part of life here in Mannankavu. It’s not about being fancy; it’s about showing up every day and doing the work that needs to be done for these children without any fuss.
