New Motor Market is the kind of place where you’re always going to get a bit of grease on your clothes. At Kiran Battery service, that’s just how it is every day. We deal with all sorts of batteries for cars, trucks, and even the small ones for bikes. The floor is stained with old acid and oil, no matter how much I try to scrub it. I spend a lot of time lifting heavy batteries, which is tough on the arms after a while. Most of the time, someone comes in because their car wouldn't start in the morning and they look pretty frustrated. I check the terminals, clean off the corrosion, and see if it just needs a charge or a full replacement. We have chargers humming in the back of the shop all day long. It gets pretty loud with all the mechanics working on engines in the shops next to mine. You can hear hammers and drills from morning till night. I usually have a cup of tea sitting on a workbench somewhere. People come here because they know we just deal with batteries and don't mess around with other stuff. It’s a practical business. You don't need fancy decorations when you’re selling lead and acid. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and I have to explain that to a waiting customer. We just do the work and hope the rain doesn't flood the market street.
