Virendra Batteries is situated on Baran Road Main Road 5. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there is always the sound of traffic in the background. We spend our days surrounded by batteries of all sizes. They are heavy things, so moving them around takes some effort. The shop has a specific smell to it—a mix of metal and chemicals—that you get used to after a couple of days. We mostly help people whose cars or bikes won’t start, or those who need something for their homes. It’s straightforward work. We test things, charge them up, or give them a new one if the old one is dead. I keep a few tools on a bench near the back for checking connections. It’s often just me here, so if I’m busy with a customer, the next person has to wait a bit. I try to be quick, but you can’t rush some of these things. The floor is made of rough stone because we are always sliding heavy boxes across it. We don’t have a lot of decorations on the walls, just some old calendars and maybe a list of prices scribbled on a piece of paper. People find us because we are right on the main road. It makes it convenient for them to pull over. When the sun sets, the road gets even busier, and that’s usually when we start thinking about closing up for the night.
