The Calcutta Technical School

The Calcutta Technical School is located at No.110, Surendra Nath Banerjee Road. This is an old part of the city, and the building itself has a lot of history to it. You can see the age in the walls and the high ceilings. We’ve been teaching technical skills here for a very long time. It’s right in the thick of the city’s hustle, with trams and buses passing by the front door all day. Inside, we have workshops and rooms filled with various machines and tools. It’s a bit grimy in some of the shop areas, but that’s because real work happens there. We teach things like mechanics and electrical work, the kind of stuff where you have to get your hands dirty. The students are mostly young people looking to get a steady job in a trade. The instructors are experienced guys who have been doing this for decades. They don't have much patience for laziness, but they’ll show you the right way to use a lathe or wire a circuit. It’s a bit noisy because of the traffic outside and the machines inside, but it’s a good environment for learning. We don't have a fancy lobby or air conditioning in every room. It’s a practical place for people who want to learn a skill and go to work. We’ve seen many generations of students pass through these halls. It stays busy.
