Jadavpur University

We are located down at 1/B Kalibari Lane in the Jadavpur area of Kolkata. This particular spot is part of the larger university network, but it feels like its own little world. It is an old building, and you can see the history in the walls and the way the stairs have worn down over the years. We spend a lot of time dealing with paperwork, books, and students who are trying to figure out their schedules. It is not always organized perfectly. Sometimes the ceiling leaks a bit when the monsoon rains are heavy, and we have to move the desks around. The lane outside is narrow and can get quite crowded with people and cycles. We are not trying to be a corporate office. We are an institution of learning, and that comes with a bit of mess and a lot of discussion. You will often hear students arguing about something or other in the hallways. We drink a lot of tea from the stall just down the road. It is a busy, sometimes chaotic place, but it has a lot of heart. We do not have a fancy reception desk with a phone that never stops ringing. We just do the daily work of keeping the department running. It is simple, it is Kolkata, and it is just the way we like it. We have been here for a long time.
