If you take the lift up to the 5th floor of Sagar Estate, you’ll find us at Unit No. 4. Being a bit higher up means it’s a little quieter than the ground floor, though you can still hear the traffic from 2 Nc Dutta Sarani if the windows are open. Chamong Tea Exports Pvt. Ltd. is basically just a group of us sitting around desks covered in shipping manifests and small tin boxes. We spend a lot of time looking at the clock and waiting for the couriers to arrive. The light in here is a bit yellow from the old bulbs, and we have one fan that makes a clicking noise every time it turns, but we’ve gotten used to it. Working in the export side of things means we deal with a lot of people we never actually see. It’s all voices on the phone or names in an inbox. We have a small corner where we keep the electric kettle, and that’s probably the most used thing in the office besides the printer. We don’t bother with much branding on the walls or anything like that. It’s just a place to work. Sometimes the lift breaks down and we have to walk the five flights, which isn't great for the knees, but it keeps us moving. The days go by fast when there’s a big shipment going out. We just focus on the task and try not to get too bogged down.
