You can find Arcuttipore Tea Co. Ltd. on the 4th floor of S.B. Tower, which is at 37 Shakespeare Sarani. Being on the 4th floor means we rely a lot on the elevator, which sometimes has a mind of its own. Once you get up here, the office is actually quite steady. Shakespeare Sarani is always buzzing with activity, and from our windows, you can see the constant stream of cars and people. It’s a prime spot in the city, but inside the S.B. Tower, it’s mostly just the sound of keyboards and the hum of the air conditioning. We have a lot of files and ledgers because we still like to keep things on paper when we can. The desks are covered in notebooks and lists. We’ve been operating from this address for many years, so there’s a lot of history in these walls. We have a small pantry where we make tea, obviously, and that’s where most of the office gossip happens. The staff is like a small family; we’ve worked together for a long time. We don’t really bother with trying to look bigger than we are. We just handle the business of the tea company, making sure the orders are processed and the logistics are sorted out. It’s a lot of coordination between the office here and the people on the ground elsewhere. We just keep at it, day after day.
