Chamong Tea Exports Ltd.

Our office is tucked away in Sagar Estate, right on 2 N.C. Dutta Saran. It’s a busy building, lots of feet moving in the hallways and the lift is usually full around noon. Chamong Tea Exports Ltd. takes up a fair amount of our time, mostly because shipping tea out to different places isn't as simple as it sounds. There are always containers to track and customs things to worry about. We have a few big windows that look out over the street, but mostly we’re focused on what’s on our desks. The air smells like dust and old paper, mixed with that faint tea scent that follows us home. We keep things pretty simple here. No one wears a suit unless they really have to for a meeting. Usually, it’s just us in our regular clothes, checking the weight of samples and making sure the labels are stuck on right. Sometimes the tea arrives late from the gardens, and then it’s a bit of a scramble to get things moving again. We’ve been in this spot for a while, and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it works for what we do. It’s not a place for tourists, just a working office where we try to keep the exports moving without too much fuss. Dealing with logistics means a lot of waiting on emails and hoping the weather stays clear for the ships.
