Calcutta University

We are based out in Shyamnagar, specifically the Shantigarh area. It’s a bit away from the main city buzz, situated in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Even though the name Calcutta University is on the gate, this spot has its own pace. It's quieter here. We handle the local academic stuff and look after the students who come through. The buildings are older and have that specific smell of books and old paper. We spend our days sorting out schedules and making sure the classes run on time. It's not always easy with the power cuts or the rain in the monsoon season. We see a lot of young faces every year. They come from nearby towns mostly. The staff here has been around for ages. We know the local shopkeepers and the tea stall owners down the lane. It’s a community. We don't have fancy tech in every corner, just the basics that get the job done. Sometimes the paperwork piles up on the wooden desks, but we get through it eventually. Walking around the grounds, you see students sitting under the trees. It’s a simple life. We focus on the teaching and the learning without much fuss. It feels like a small world here in Shantigarh. We just keep things going for the next generation of learners. There is a sense of history in these walls that we try to respect every single day.
