Tapeshwari School is tucked away on Ramlalla Road in the Rawatpur area of Kanpur. If you look for house number 116/438 V, that’s where you’ll find us. It’s a typical Kanpur street, which means it’s usually quite lively and a bit crowded. Our school has been part of this neighborhood for quite some time. We aren’t a massive institution with several campuses; we are just this one building where we try to teach the local kids. The classrooms are simple, with wooden benches and blackboards that have been used for years. Every morning, the street fills up with parents dropping off their children, and then the whole place rings with the sound of the morning prayer. We don’t have a lot of extra space, so we make do with what we have. The teachers are mostly women from the surrounding streets who have a lot of patience. We spend our days going over math problems and reading out of the textbooks. It’s a lot of repetition, but that’s how the kids learn. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open all the windows to catch a breeze. It’s just the way things go here in Rawatpur. We don't have a big marketing team or anything; most people just know us because they live nearby or their cousins went here. It’s a very local, down-to-earth kind of place.
