Sai Vidyalaya

Sai Vidyalaya is situated at No 28 B/1 on Madam Street, right in the Pillayarpalayam area of Kanchipuram. It is an old part of town, and the street can get quite narrow when the local carts and cycles are moving through. Our school building is just a part of the neighborhood, surrounded by houses and small shops. You can see the kids coming in through the main door every morning, mostly wearing their uniforms and carrying those plastic water bottles. The rooms are basic with painted walls that we have to touch up every now and then after the monsoon rains. We have a small staff of people who have lived in Kanchipuram most of their lives. It isn't a place with big glass windows or expensive carpets. Instead, we have tiled floors and blackboards that have been used for years. During the day, you can hear the sound of teachers reading out lessons and the kids repeating things back in a chorus. Sometimes a cow wanders past the front gate, which is just normal for this part of Pillayarpalayam. We keep a simple routine of lessons, snacks, and a bit of play in the courtyard. It is just a place where local children come to spend their day and pick up some knowledge before heading back home to their parents. We don’t try to be anything other than a local school doing its thing every day and keeping the children busy with their studies and school activities.
