You can find Bharathidasan Matriculation Higher Secondary School right near the railway station in Kanchipuram. Being so close to the tracks means we hear the trains going by all day, but you eventually stop noticing it. The school has been part of this neighborhood for quite a long time. It’s a tall building with many stairs, and during the break times, the hallways are full of kids running around. We have a lot of students from different parts of the city because the location is so central. Our staff room is always a bit of a mess with stacks of notebooks waiting to be corrected. We don't have a professional photographer or anyone to manage a social media page. We just do the work that needs doing. The classrooms have wooden benches and blackboards that have been wiped clean thousands of times. Sometimes we have issues with the plumbing or a fan that stops working, and we just deal with it as it happens. It’s a busy, noisy, and very real place. We focus on the syllabus and getting through the exams. Parents often drop by after work since we are so close to the station. We talk to them about their children’s progress over a quick cup of tea. There is nothing fancy about how we run things. We’re just a local school trying to help the kids in Kanchipuram get an education.
