Government Girls High School

Government Girls High School is over on Rajarajan Street in Thirumullaivoyal. Our address is No 2, and it’s a place that’s been around for quite a bit. Being a girls' school, it’s got a bit of a different feel than the co-ed ones nearby. The street itself, Rajarajan Street, is a typical Chennai road with houses and small shops scattered around. We have students from all over the Thirumullaivoyal area coming in every morning. The morning assembly is usually when the place is loudest, with everyone lined up in the courtyard. We don't have fancy air conditioning or anything like that, just the standard ceiling fans and open windows to catch whatever breeze we can get. The school building has its quirks, like that one door that always squeaks or the way the light hits the back classrooms in the evening. It’s a very practical environment for the girls. They usually sit in the shade during lunch, talking and sharing food. We don't spend money on big advertisements because everyone in the 600062 zip code knows where we are already. It’s just a local school doing its thing year after year. The teachers are usually busy grading papers or talking to parents near the gate during the afternoon pickup. It’s a busy, sometimes messy, but very real place. We just try to keep things moving forward and make sure the girls have a decent place to study and prepare for their exams.
