We are over here at Plot No-605 and 606 in Pakuritala village. It is quite a quiet spot near Tapsikhata in the Alipurduar area. Most of us here have been working the land for a long time before we started Pararpar Farmers Producer Company Limited. The roads around Jalpaiguri get a bit messy during the rains, but we manage. We aren’t a big fancy office with glass walls. Just some rooms where we talk about seeds and what is growing this season. Life in West Bengal moves at its own pace and we just follow that. Sometimes the electricity goes out while we are trying to get paperwork done, which is a real pain. We focus on the things we know, like the soil and the crops that grow well in this humidity. It is a group effort really. Everyone brings something different to the table from their own small plots. We don’t have fancy chairs, just a few plastic ones and some old tables. People drop by after finishing their work in the fields to discuss what’s happening. It’s mostly about getting things organized so we can get better prices or find someone to buy the produce.
