Azola Farmers Producer Company Limited is a local outfit here in Jalpaiguri. Our main office is really just Sujit Barman’s place in Khaunchand Para. To be more specific, we’re in East Khauchand Para. It’s a quiet neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We’re all farmers by trade, so we spend most of our time out in the fields rather than sitting behind a desk. We named the company Azola because it’s something familiar to us. Sujit is usually the one who keeps the books in order and makes sure the mail gets answered. We started this producer company because we wanted to have more control over how we sell our crops and get our supplies. Jalpaiguri can be a tough place to farm with the weather being so unpredictable, but we’ve learned to manage over the years. We aren't some big corporate group with a marketing team. We're just neighbors who decided to pool our resources. If you walk down the road in Khaunchand Para, you might see a few of us gathered at Sujit’s house talking about the market prices or the upcoming rain. It’s a very simple operation. We don’t have much in the way of flair, but we do our best to look after the interests of the farmers who joined up with us. It’s just how things are done in our part of the world. We’ve been here a long time and don’t plan on going anywhere soon.
