The Hotel Hindusthan International Kolkata

We are based over at 19, College Road in Howrah, which is 711103. This isn't the main side of the city, but it stays just as busy. Working at a hotel like the Hindusthan International means you see a lot of people coming and going at all hours. Some people are here for work and others are just passing through, but they all want the same thing—a place to sit down and a bit of peace. The street outside can be quite loud with all the horns and people walking to the college, but once you step inside, it’s a bit different. We spend the day checking the rooms, making sure the towels are where they should be, and answering the same questions about where the best food is. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it keeps the place going. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves because we are just people who work in a hotel. The building has its quirks, like any old place in Howrah, and we just learn to work around them. Sometimes the lobby gets crowded and we have to move fast to get everyone sorted. It’s just a job where you hope the guests are happy enough not to complain and that the day goes by without any major problems. We handle the bookings and the cleaning and whatever else comes up during the shift without much fuss from anyone on the staff.
