If you head down to the Sikender Pur Marble Market on M G Road, you’ll find us. It’s a dusty place, mostly because of all the stone being cut and moved around. Gem Granim & Marble has been sitting in this spot for quite some time. We have stacks of slabs everywhere—granite, marble, different types of stone from all over. It’s heavy work. Most of our day is spent showing people different colors and patterns. They come in with their architects or sometimes just by themselves, trying to figure out what looks good for a kitchen or a floor. We use a lot of water to keep the dust down when we show the polish on a piece of stone. The yard is big, but it always feels cramped because we keep getting new stock. Our clothes usually have a bit of white dust on them by the end of the shift. The traffic on M G Road is a bit of a nightmare, especially when the big trucks are trying to reverse into our gate. You have to be patient in this business. Sometimes a slab has a crack you didn't see, and you have to start all over. We don't do much talking; we just show the stone and let people decide. It's a loud, busy environment with the sound of cranes and saws always in the background.
