Kumodini Farmer Producer Company Limited is over at Rajesh Ku Pandey’s place in Katraitahara, near Sita Madi. This is a group for the farmers around here who want to stay independent but still have the strength of a group behind them. We’ve all seen how hard it is to get a fair price when you go to the market alone with just a few bags of produce to sell. Rajesh offered up his space to help us get organized and keep the paperwork in one spot. We spend a lot of time talking about the weather and the soil because that’s what dictates how our year will go. Sita Madi is a place with a lot of history and we’ve been farming these fields for generations. This company is just a new way to do an old job that our grandfathers did. We don't use fancy words or have big meetings in expensive hotels. We just meet up at the house or out in the fields and figure out what we need to buy or sell for the month. Sometimes the paperwork for the government is a real pain, but we help each other through the forms. It’s mostly about making sure we can keep our way of life going without too much struggle. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make things a little better for the folks in Katraitahara. It's a simple goal for us.
