Agriculture Samrat Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in Bastibhujwalyudhisthirpatti. We operate out of Lalji’s house in the village. The name sounds quite grand, but in reality, we are just regular people who work in the dirt every day. We have lived in this village our whole lives and we know every inch of these fields. We decided to form this group so we would not be at the mercy of middlemen anymore. Most evenings, you can find us sitting around and talking about what seeds we need for the next season. It involves a lot of sitting together and discussing things over a cup of tea. We do not have a proper office with desks and spinning chairs, just a porch where we handle our business. The weather is always our biggest boss, and we have to follow what it says. Some years are decent, and other years we just barely get by. We are slowly learning how to handle the business side of things. None of us went to a fancy school, so we just rely on what we know about growing things. We hope that by working as a group, we can eventually get better prices for equipment and supplies. It is hard work that makes your back ache, but it is our life. We do not do any big promotions or advertising. We are just focused on the soil and the crops.
