Dakshina Jaivik Farmer Producer Companylimited is basically a group of us who live and work around Gureygoan and Brihadipur. We spend most of our time out in the fields or sitting around Awadhesh Kumar Singh’s place trying to figure out the best way to handle the crops this season. It isn't anything fancy, just a lot of dirt under the fingernails and worrying about when the rain will actually start. We wanted to keep things natural, so the "Jaivik" part is important to us, even if it makes the work a bit harder some days. Most mornings start early, usually before the sun is even fully up, and we just get to it. There’s always someone coming by to ask about seeds or how the last batch of vegetables turned out. We don’t have a big office or a bunch of computers. It is just us, a few notebooks for keeping track of things, and the local land we’ve known our whole lives. Sometimes things go well, and sometimes the pests get the better of us, but that is just how farming goes around here. We just try to help each other out so nobody gets stuck behind. It's a lot of talking to neighbors and making sure the supplies get where they need to go on time. It’s hard work, and the heat in Brihadipur can be a real pain, but we’re used to it by now.
