Over in Kamalabari, right by Mekheli Gaon, life is pretty much tied to the river and the land. We put together Seuj Brahmaputra Bamboo Farmer Producer Company Limited because the bamboo around here is good, but selling it was always a bit of a gamble for the individual farmers. Ranjan Hazarika keeps the records and handles things at his place. It’s a practical setup. We don’t spend money on fancy signs or advertising because everyone around here already knows who we are and what we’re doing. Most mornings start early with people dropping by to talk about the harvest or the river levels. The Brahmaputra can be a challenge, and it affects everything we do, from growing to transport. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, just trying to get a fair shake for the bamboo growers in our small corner. There’s plenty of mud on our boots most days, and the office work usually happens at a wooden table with a lot of tea going around. It’s not always organized perfectly, and sometimes we lose track of time just talking about the old ways of farming versus how things are now. We’re just local folks from Mekheli Gaon who know a thing or two about bamboo and want to keep our community going. If you’re ever out this way, you’ll see us working.
