Rukmini Bamboo Farmers Producer Company Limited

We are over here in Dopani Borgaon, running this bamboo group out of Munidra Gogoi’s place. It started because there is so much bamboo around our village and everyone was just doing their own thing. We thought it made more sense to get the farmers together under the Rukmini name so we could handle the transport and the buyers better. It is not some big fancy operation. Most days we are just out in the groves checking on the new shoots or talking to the neighbors about what needs cutting this week. The mud gets pretty bad during the rains, which slows everything down, but that is just how it goes in this part of the world. We spend a lot of time organizing the loads and making sure the trucks can actually get in and out of the village. It is mostly about keeping the local guys working and finding a fair way to move the bamboo to the markets. You will usually find a few of us sitting around the office area just sorting through the paperwork or planning the next harvest. We do not have a big staff, just the folks from around here who know how to work the land. It’s practical work, nothing flashy. We just keep at it day after day because the bamboo keeps growing and there is always another load to get ready for the town.
