Daniel Marines

You can find Daniel Marines right at Shop No. 2, just opposite the Malim Fishing Jetty. It’s a very specific kind of place to work. Being right across from the jetty means we are always around the boats and the water. There is a lot of noise from the engines and people shouting as they unload the daily catch. The air always smells like the sea and fish, which you get used to after a couple of days. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s a small shop packed with whatever we need to keep things running. Malim Betim is a busy area, especially in the early mornings when the boats come in. We spend a lot of time outside or standing in the doorway watching the activity. It gets quite humid being so close to the water, but there’s usually a bit of a breeze. People who work on the boats stop by all the time. Our floor is usually a bit dusty or wet from the boots coming in and out. It’s a practical place, nothing for show. We just handle our business right here on the edge of the water. If the jetty is busy, the whole road gets blocked up with trucks and carts. It’s just the way it works here in Malim. We’ve been at this spot for a while now.
