Our facility is at number 18/1348 in Palluruthy. It’s an old part of town and the building has been here for a long time, so it has some character and a few leaks we have to fix. You can smell the sea air when the wind blows the right way from the coast. We’ve got a fairly large space for the food processing, with high ceilings to keep it cool during the hot months when the sun is beating down. Most of the staff comes from the neighborhood, so they just walk or bike to work every morning. We don't have any polished lobby or fancy reception area for visitors. You just walk in past the main gate and you’re right where the work happens with the bags and the bins. There are always sacks of raw materials being moved around on hand trolleys. We spend a lot of our time making sure the equipment is clean and the temperature is right for whatever we are making that day. It’s a lot of manual labor, but we have some old machines that help out with the heavy lifting and mixing. The floor is usually a bit damp because we wash it down so often to keep everything tidy. We have a small break area where we drink tea and talk about the local news or the football scores on the weekend. It’s not a high-pressure corporate environment. We just have a job to do and we do it every day. Some days are better than others, especially when the humidity is high.
