Ksr Rice Mill

Ksr Rice Mill is located over in Mookanoor, right near Angamaly. It’s a nice enough area, though the traffic on the main roads can be a real headache when we are trying to get the deliveries out on time. The mill itself is a standard setup, nothing you haven't seen before if you live around here. We have the big machines for de-husking and polishing the rice, and they make a rhythmic thumping sound that you can hear from the post office. We spend our days surrounded by mountains of gunny bags and the fine dust that comes off the grain. It gets into your hair and your skin, but that’s just the life of a mill worker. We mostly see the local farmers who bring in their paddy after the harvest is done. There is a lot of manual labor involved, stacking the bags and loading them onto the back of small trucks. We don't use any fancy computer systems; we just write everything down in the books and keep moving. During the rainy season, we have to be extra careful to keep the moisture out, or else the whole batch gets ruined. It’s a lot of responsibility but we’ve been doing it long enough that it’s just second nature now. We take our breaks together and talk about the local news or whatever is happening in Angamaly. It’s just a regular local business doing its thing every day.
