We’ve been here on Manjaly Road for quite some time now. Most people in Angamaly South know where the building is because of the smells that drift out. It’s not a bad smell, just strong, like spices and herbs being crushed all day long. The trucks come in early, usually around six or seven, and they block the narrow part of the road for a bit while they unload. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anything like that. There’s a desk near the front where Suresh sits, and he handles most of the paperwork that comes through. The floors are concrete and they get stained from the oils we work with, but we try to keep things tidy enough. It’s hot in the afternoons, especially in the warehouse area where the ventilation isn't great, but everyone just gets on with it. We handle a lot of different ingredients for food companies. Sometimes it’s pepper, sometimes it’s something more flowery. You get used to the scent sticking to your clothes by the time you go home. My wife always says she knows I’m back before I even open the door. The building itself is older, with some cracks in the plaster near the ceiling that we’ve been meaning to fix. It’s just a regular place where people show up, do their shift, and head back to their families. We don’t do much advertising because the work usually just finds its way to us.
