Neelkamal Publications Pvt. Ltd. is located at Plot No.4765/1 on 23 Ansari Road. If you know Daryaganj, you know it’s the heart of the book world in Delhi. We are quite close to Delhi Gate, so there is always a lot of movement around here. The building we are in has that old Delhi feel, with narrow stairs and heavy doors that have seen better days. Every morning, the chai wallah comes by and that’s usually when we start our day. The office is filled with the smell of paper and ink, which I guess is normal for a place like ours. We have stacks of manuscripts and boxes piled up in the corners. It’s a bit of a mess if I’m being honest, but we know where everything is. The staff has been with us for a long time, so we’re more like a small family than coworkers. We don’t really go for those fancy modern office designs. Our chairs are old and the fans hum a bit too loudly when it’s hot, but we get the work done. Outside, Ansari Road is always jam-packed with trucks loading and unloading books. It’s a chaotic place but there is an energy to it that you won’t find anywhere else. We just do our thing among all the noise and try to stay on top of the printing schedules. It’s a long day, but we like the life here.
