Our place, Friends Publications India, is situated at 101-102 on Ansari Road in Darya Ganj. We are in the 4787/23 building. Like most businesses in this part of Delhi, we are surrounded by books and paper everywhere you look. It’s a busy environment. We spend most of our time dealing with piles of manuscripts and printed copies. There’s always a bit of a mess in the office, with boxes waiting to be taped up and sent out. Darya Ganj is a maze of streets, and Ansari Road is right in the heart of it. You can hear the sounds of the city all day long—the rickshaws, the people talking, and the occasional rain hitting the roof. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s more of a place where work gets done. The rooms are filled with the smell of paper and ink, which is something you get used to after a few days. We’ve got a couple of desks shoved into the corners where we handle the paperwork. It’s not a corporate office by any means. It’s just a spot where a few of us work together to get books out to the people who want them. Sometimes it’s stressful when there’s a deadline, but mostly we just take things as they come. It’s been our home for a long time now. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs to be done every single day.
