Our place, Dhanpat Rai Publishing Company (Pvt.) Ltd., is located at Plot 4779/23 on Ansari Road in Darya Ganj. If you have ever been to Darya Ganj, you know how hectic it can get with all the book shops and people moving around. Our office is right in the middle of that chaos. It is an old building, and the walls are lined with stacks of books that we have published over the years. We do not have any fancy glass walls or modern furniture; it is mostly just old desks, filing cabinets, and a lot of paper everywhere. The air always smells a bit like old books and printing ink, which is something you get used to pretty quickly. Most of our day is spent talking to printers or checking through manuscripts that come in. It is a slow process sometimes, and things can get frustrating when deadlines are tight. The stairs are narrow, and moving heavy boxes of books up and down is always a struggle for the staff. We have been in this spot for years, and while the neighborhood has changed a bit, our routine stays the same. We come in, do the work, and deal with the piles of paperwork on our desks. Darya Ganj is a tough place to work because of the traffic and noise, but it is the heart of the book trade here. We just keep our heads down and keep the books moving out to the sellers.
