V L B Janaki Amal College Of Engineering & Technology is out here in Kovai-Pudur. It’s a quiet spot most mornings before the buses start rolling in through the main gate. I’ve spent a lot of time walking across the grounds, and you notice how the sun hits the buildings just right around ten o’clock. Most of us here are just focused on getting through the daily schedule without too much fuss. There are classrooms filled with wooden benches and whiteboards that have seen better days, but they do the job. You’ll see students hanging out near the canteen during the breaks, mostly just talking about their exams or what they’re doing over the weekend. The labs are pretty standard, with machines that hum all day long. Sometimes the power goes out, and everyone just waits a bit until the generators kick in. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular college where people come to learn and work. We have a lot of trees around the perimeter which keeps things a bit cooler when the heat picks up in the afternoon. The staff room is usually a mess of papers and half-finished coffee cups. That’s just how it is here. You get used to the rhythm of the place, the sound of the bells, and the way the dust settles on the shelves. It’s a long day for most, but we get it done and head home once the sun starts going down behind the hills.
