United Handicapped School

We are located on Sathy Road in Kurumbapalayam. It’s a busy stretch of road in Coimbatore, so there is always the sound of traffic in the background. The school is at number 96 A, a simple building that we try to keep as tidy as we can. We have quite a few classrooms but they aren't very big. Most of the furniture is older, but it serves the purpose for our students. Every morning, the school bus arrives and things get moving quickly. We spend a lot of time helping the children get from the gate to their rooms. It takes a lot of patience from the staff here, and sometimes the days feel very long. We don't have a huge budget for decorations, so we just have some basic posters on the walls. The backyard has a small area where students can sit outside when it’s not too hot. Coimbatore weather can be unpredictable, so we’re always ready for a sudden rain shower. Most of the people who work here live in the local neighborhood and walk to the school. We just try to keep a steady routine because it helps the kids feel more comfortable. It’s a lot of work, and some days are harder than others, but we just keep showing up and doing what needs to be done for the students. The office desk is piled high with notebooks that need checking and we often stay late to finish up the paperwork for the day.
