Sakthi Electrical Control

You can find us at No.47 on Bharathi Street in Chinnavedampatty. It’s a bit of a trek into the Ganapathy area, but we’ve been here long enough that people know the way. The workshop is where we spend ninety percent of our time. We make electrical control panels. It involves a lot of sheet metal, punching holes, and running miles of wire. It’s not a clean job. There’s always metal shavings on the floor and the smell of paint from the spray booth. We have a small team of technicians who can wire a panel with their eyes shut. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If the bell rings, whoever is closest to the door goes to see who it is. Sometimes it’s a delivery, sometimes it’s a neighbor. We keep a ledger for the accounts and a big calendar on the wall to track the orders. It’s simple. We build the boxes, fill them with switches and breakers, and test them until they work. The fans in the ceiling don't do much when the afternoon sun hits the tin roof, but we’re used to it. It’s just a regular local shop. We don’t put on any acts. We just build the controls and try to keep our customers happy so they come back next time. We have a small storage area in the back for all the spare nuts and bolts. It takes forever to find the right size if you don't put them back in the right bin, which happens more often than I’d like to admit. The neighbors are other workshops, so we all know each other. It’s a community of makers, I suppose.
